Elections in Pakistan violence claims three lives, several injured, Print E-mail

LAHORE: Three people were killed and more than 40 injured in fresh wave of violence across Punjab on the Election Day. Electoral process was suspended for hours in many polling stations. Police and Rangers held scores of miscreants.

Incidents of violence were reported from Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Qasur, Sialkot, Gujrat, Kamonki, Sheikhupura, Dera Ghazi Khan, Narang Mandi, Gujranwala, Bhakkar, Vehari, Sahiwal and other cities. Thirty women were held with fake national identity cards in PP 34 polling station in Sargodha.

One man, Mohammad Salim was killed and four others injured in clashes between two rival political factions in Shakargarh village. The rangers apprehended 14-armed men who forcefully tried to caste vote in NA 131 constituency of Narang Mandi.

Exchange of fire took place outside the Qadirabad Polling station between PML – Q and PPP workers which left 5 people injured. The army reached the spot and polling process was suspended for two hours. A political worker, Lala Fayyaz was killed in an exchange of fire in NA 112 Sialkot.

Four people were injured in NA 98 in Kamonki in acts of violence. 6 others were injured in firing outside different polling stations in NA 134 and PP 169 in district Sheikhupura. The rangers were called in Qasur after two rival political groups exchanged fire. Three gunmen of contesting candidate were arrested on charges of firing outside Jalal pur Bhattian Polling station in the limits of Hafizabad. In a joint operation,

Police and Rangers recovered Heavy catchments of ammunition in a vehicle from NA 106 of Lala Mosa area. Firing claimed one life and two were injured in Dera Ghazi Khan.
