ISLAMABAD: The in-camera joint session of both houses of the Parliament (National Assembly & Senate) was adjourned till 11 AM tomorrow (Thursday) after completing the day’s proceedings here on Wednesday. According to sources, Director Genreal, Military Operations and newly appointed Chief of Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt. Gen. Ahmed Shuja Pasha in his briefing told the parliamentarians that so far 1368 security personnel have been martyred and 3348 injured in the fight against terrorism. He said the policies were revised in the wake of the 9/11 and keeping in view the defence of the country. The war on terror as well as the country’s defence and safety to its sovereignty have always remained the foremost priority, he added. Gen. Shuja Pasha also spoke about involvement of foreign elements in the militant activities in FATA and tribal areas. He said the militants regrouped after the release of Sufi Muhammad. The ISI Chief said it is imperative to root out militancy from the tribal areas. Speaker National Assembly, Dr. Fahmida Mirza presided over the special session of the parliament. |
