ImageQUETTA - Balochistan Governor Owais Ahmad Ghani was removed on Friday while Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Amanullah Khan Yasinzai will take oath as acting Governor on Saturday.
 
Reliable sources said that the decision of removing Governor Balochistan Owais Ghani was taken in a meeting chaired by President Pervez Musharraf late Friday night.

Ghani who is a confidant of President Pervez Musharraf, is expected to be assigned important responsibility in Federal govt or NWFP.

Owais Ahmad Ghani was appointed as Governor Balochistan in April 2003 which was opposed by all political parties except Pakhtoonkhawa Milli Awami Party.

The sources say that the decision of appointment of permanent Governor has not been taken so far and the province will have Chief Justice Balochistan High Court as acting Governor for a few days.

Online adds: The federal government is seriously reviewing the option to replace Governor of NWFP and Balochistan respectively.

Well-placed sources told Online that in next one to two days, final decision would come in this regard. The sources informed that Balochistan Governor Awais Ghani would replace Governor NWFP Ali Muhammad Jan Aurakzai while on the other hand names of various persons are on the cards for the seat of Balochistan Governor. The sources were of the view that since last many days consultations are going on for the names of Governor of NWFP and Balochistan respectively. President Musharraf is expected to issue the orders in next one to two days in this regard, sources added. The President has completed his consultation with Caretaker PM Muhammadmian Soomro in this connection, the sources further added.

Afghan envoy abducted in Peshawar PESHAWAR: Afghanistan's ambassador designate to Pakistan was abducted and his driver killed in an ambush on the diplomat's car Monday, in Peshawar, Afghan consulate said.

"The driver was killed in the firing and ambassador Abdul Khaliq Farahi has been abducted," the spokesman and commercial attaché of Afghan embassy Noor Mohammad told Geo News.

Gunmen opened fire on the car as it was taking the ambassador from the consulate in the city centre to his home in a plush suburb of Hayatabad area near the Afghan border.

The consul, Abdul Khaliq Farahi, was due to take over in coming days as the Afghan ambassador to Islamabad, officials said.
