ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani have said the government is committed to fulfilling the dreams of the country's founding father Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. In a message on the 60th death anniversary of Quaid-i-Azam, President Asif Ali Zardari stressed to resolve the past lapses and purge evils from the society by following the principles of Quaid-i-Azam. "Let us carry forward, with all honesty and sincerity, the campaign we have launched for moral regeneration of the society. This will indeed be a most befitting tribute to the memory of the Founder of the Nation," he said. President Zardari said the day was observed to pay homage to Quaid-i-Azam with due solemnity and reverence. "It is also for soul-searching and self-appraisal in order to determine how far we have measured up to the expectations of our benefactor," he said. The president said Quaid-i-Azam united the discordant elements among the Muslims of the Subcontinent, welded them into a nation in a remarkably short time and secured a separate homeland for them. He said Quaid-i-Azam was a paragon of uprightness, honesty, integrity and courage of conviction."He neither compromised on principles nor allowed expediency to influence his judgement. His conduct was above reproach, his incorruptibility unquestioned and his scrupulous honour universally acknowledge," he said. Zardari said the Quaid's pre-eminent attributes endowed him with clarity of vision and steadfastness of pursuit for the achievement of the Islamic State of Pakistan. In a message on the 60th death anniversary of Quaid-i-Azam, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said: "I appeal to the nation to come forward and to unitedly endeavour with devotion and dedication for the realisation of the ideals for which Pakistan was created." The prime minister said in the recent past the nation was beset with problems of serious economic decline, corruption, breakdown of law and order, etc. "In spite of heavy odds, the present government has taken steps to put the country on an even keel. Very soon Inshallah the nation will benefit from the sound economic and administrative policies being adopted by the present government," he added. The prime minister said the death anniversary of Quaid-i-Azam reminds us of the heroic efforts made by the great leader in bringing the Muslims of the Sub-continent under the same banner. "It is also an occasion for soul-searching and for determining to what extent we have succeeded in achieving the ideals for which Quaid-i-Azam worked and struggled." He said: "It was our misfortune that Quaid-i-Azam left us at a critical juncture soon after the creation of Pakistan and when we needed him most to steer us out of the teething problems that the nation faced in its infancy." "Had the Quaid lived a little longer, he certainly would have completed the mission of providing a sound foundation for a progressive state thus enabling us to avoid the pitfalls that we drifted into soon after his death." The prime minister said the government stands committed to fulfilling the dreams of Quaid-i-Azam and "Inshallah we will succeed in our mission." "For indeed this will be the most befitting way of paying homage to Quaid-i-Azam," he added. |
